House of Dun & Montrose Basin Nature Reserve

houseofdunA notable example of Georgian architecture, the House of Dun was built in 1730 by William Adam, on lands held by the Erskine family since 1375. The present d├ęcor stems from refurbishment in the early 19th century, featuring masterful plasterwork by Joseph Enzer and the family collection of furniture, portraits and porcelain.

Exterior attractions include picturesque walks and an excellent walled garden.

(A day out I suggest is a walk at Lunan Bay in the morning, lunch at But 'n Ben's and then an afternoon visit to the House of Dun & Dunnottar Castle.)
